Meta Tags Are It?

Meta Tags are HTML elements that can optionally be included within web pages, and contain information about the document such as the author, keywords describing the document, a description of the document, etc.

Some search engines will use the content of the meta tags as part of their search and/or ranking algorithms, but other search engines ignore them completely.

While creating correct and optimal meta tags is an important part of search engine positioning strategies, this does not mean that simply incorporating meta tags in your pages is enough to achieve search engine promotion success.

Search engines are a lot more sophisticated and complex that this:
  • Some search engines completely ignore Meta Tags.

  • Search engines use other criteria than just the Meta Tags to analyze and rank web sites (like the content of the page, links to page, etc.).

Summary

Meta tags are important and a worthwhile element of your web pages, but it is doubtful that simply adding metatags to your site will guarantee a high ranking.

(If you really want to know how to get a good search engine rank - then read the section of this site on positioning strategies).
